Misreading Darwin And The Most Important Box In The World

...comprise the essence of today's two new posts. Check them out below.

What's that? How am I celebrating Valentine's Day?

Silly question. You should know by now that Valentine's Day is not a recognized observance in the City of Tiny Lights.

Is it because it is too commercial? No. Is it because I find the treacle and underlying message of the observance distasteful? That's closer to the truth.

Better yet, get the low-down from St. Valentine himself.

Hmmm...I think that might be the wrong St. Valentine. Or were they all beheaded? Crap, we celebrate them all today, don't we?

Actually, if I remember from the write up I did last year at this time (starting off my hagiocentric posts that I really and truly love doing), Chaucer was the one who first linked St. Valentine's day with romantic love, because birds were doing it around this time. Oh, Geoff, you cad!

I remember the Chaucer thing as well.

The stories of the saints, as you well know, are so often apocryphal that they take on many forms and meanings.

Hell, look at St. Christopher.
